Invisible Universe

(Voyager, CD-ROM for PC and Mac, $39.95)

Presided over by Italian astrophysicist Dr. Fiorella Terenzi, this disc tries to bring sex appeal to topics like the electromagnetic spectrum and long- and short-wavelength astronomy by dressing Dr. Terenzi in mini skirts. In a thick Italian accent, she describes phenomena like quasars that are not visible to the naked eye, and there are cosmic poetry selections ranging from Shakespeare to Timothy Leary and even some new-age music of the orbs Terenzi composed using radio signals from galaxies far, far away. But in the end, this polished electronic coffee table book doesn't offer much depth, and many viewers may wish the producers had decided to overdub the narration with an English announcer. -- C
